Make A Static Strap

Get a few feet of regular wire and an alligator clip. Strip a little insulation off each end of the wire, then using something like masking tape, tape one end of the wire to your arm or leg so that the bare wire it touching your skin. I prefer to tape the wire to my leg or ankle because it keeps the wire out of the way. Next attach the other end of the wire to the alligator clip.

Once you get chassis out of the computer, attach the alligator clip to the metallic frame. From that point on you should be safe from a static discharge.

This is a photo of the chassis when it is out of the computer. Attach the Static Strap to either of the locations indicated by the yellow arrows.

One end of the wire is taped to my arm and the other end is attached to the alligator clip.
