For the iMac, the jumper settings need to be set to "Master or Single". "Slave" is only used if you have 2 hard drives connected inside one computer.

Each hard drive manufacturer has different jumper settings. Look for a diagram on top of the hard drive or check the manufacturer's website for the correct settings for that hard drive.
